Show Jail Term Commuted HONOLULU, May 4 (U.R) The four Americans convicted convict-ed of manslaughter in the killing of Joe Kahahawai received re-ceived commutation of their sentences here today. After being sentenced to serve 10 years in prison, the court ordered commutation of the sentences requiring the defendants de-fendants to serve but one hour in custody of the court bailiff, which virtually amounted to pardon. The accused included Lieut. Thomas Massie, Mrs. Grace Fortescue, E. J. Lord, and A. 0. Jones, who were convicted last week after four weeks trial on charge of killing kill-ing Kahahawai who allegedly assaulted Massie's wife. The commutation agreement agree-ment was reached after an hour's conference between Judge Charles Johnson, Clarence Clar-ence Darrow and Prosecutor John Kelley and Governor Lawrence Judd. |
