Show STICK CAPONE UP AGAINST A WALL-AND HE'LL TALK If there is, in recent history, anything more despicable despic-able than Al Capone's attempt to trade his prison term for Col. Lindbergh's baby, we haven't heard of it. , Capone, sitting smugly in his cell, boasting of his continued power, brazenly offers to restore the baby if he is set free ! In other words, he tells the nation that he knows where the child is, that he possesses the power to return it but that until HIS terms are met the Colonel may sweat and Anne Lindbergh may sob beside an empty cradle. It is obvious, of course, that if Capone can return the baby if set free, he can just as easily return it by issuing orders to his murderous henchmen from where he is. The question that occurs to every mind, of course, is: Was the baby deliberately kidnaped to provide a basis for trading between Capone and Uncle Sam? You can answer that whichever way you like. If there was any old-time spirit in this country, Uncle Sam would take Capone out of his cell, stfand him up against a wall and notify him that a firing squad would proceed to drill his rotten carcass in twelve hours unless the baby was restored within that time. |
