Show SPRINGVILLE -HIGH YOUTH WINS PRAISE Bliss H. Crandall of Springville high and his agricultural instructor, V. C. Mendenhall, have just returned return-ed f torn Santa Fe, New Mexico, where Mr. Crandall represented the state of Utah in the western region public speaking contest of the Future Farmers of America. The western region includes: Colorado, Wyoming, . Montana, Idaho, Washington, Oregon, California, Cali-fornia, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Mex-ico, Utah and the territory of Hawaii. ! Even though the contestant from Wyoming won first, Utah's representative repre-sentative delivered his speech and responded to the questions of the judges with excellent promptness and accuracy, it is declared. The judges of the contest were: John Marshall, Jr., of the federal farm board, Mr. Wallace of bureau of agricultural economics and Dr. Kent, president of New Mexico State college. In rendering their decision they staled that their was only seven points difference between be-tween the two boys, that Utah contestant's con-testant's delivery of speech was superior. This outstanding accomplishment of Mr. Crandall's winning region, state and superior showing at Santa Fe in the region contest brings additional honor to the Springville high school and the departments de-partments he represents, namely: The vocational agricultural and speec hdepartments. The splendid cooperation of the high school speech departments. The splendid rection of Miss Naomi Broadbent, was an important factor that contributed con-tributed to Mr. Crandall's success. i tie party traveled Dy auto down through the famous Navajo Hopi, Pueblos, Apache and Piute Indians. Among points of interest was: Painted Desert and Petrified forest for-est of Arizona, Old Spanish building build-ing of New Mexico, new Colorado river bridge and the famous Zion canyon tunnel. Members of the party who participated par-ticipated In the western region conference con-ference of vocational education held during the week at Santa Fe were Mr. Noall, state supervisor of trades and industries, and vice president of America Vocational assocation; Miss Jean Cox, state supervisor of home economics; V. C. Mendenhall, agricultural instructor in-structor of Springville high school, and Bliss H. Crandall, Utah champion cham-pion in public speaking contest. |
