Show SENATE VOTES HIGHER TAX WASHINGTON, May 31 (U.K The senate today voted an additional addi-tional burden of more than $70,000,-000 $70,000,-000 on income taxpayers when It adapted the Connally amendment to the revenue bill. Action was taken just after Secretary Sec-retary of the Treasury Mills told the senate finance committee the 1932 tax bill was $285,000,000 short of the amount needed to balance the budget. The amendment, offered by Senator Sen-ator Connally, Democrat, Texas, restores re-stores the 1922 income tax rates of 4 per cent on the first $4,000 of taxable tax-able income, 8 per cent on the second sec-ond $4,000 with surtaxes graduated up to 55 per cent of incomes of $1,000,000 or more. |
