Show CONSTRUCTION OF MONUMENT BASEBEGINS Brief ceremonies were held Tuesday Tues-day afternoon when the first cement for the base and steps of the Springville pioneer monument was poured. A small box containing the May 29 edition of the Springville Herald, a history of the monument project together with the names of the monument committee and a picture of the float entered in the July 24, 1925 parade by the Daughters of Pioneers, was placed in one corner with tar to prevent expansion which would have cracked the base, according ac-cording to workmen. E. A. Strong, Joseph Grant and Glen Dallin were in charge of the work. The concrete mixture was carefully tested and every precaution precau-tion taken by those in charge to make the base and steps not only attractive in appearance but efficiently ef-ficiently strong to hold the 7Jj ton marble stone which will rest upon the base. |
