Show More Nuisance Taxes In the frantic scramble to discover new revenue sources at least two western states propose, next year, to tax such things as cosmetics, "ci carets and chewing gum. The states are Idaho and Colorado. ' Instead of trying to find new things to tax, legislators in these states and every other in the west might devote some of their time to economizing on expenditures. There are enough "nuisance taxes" already without piling on more. If legislators imagine that the public "doesn't notice" no-tice" these indirect taxes they are fooling themselves. The public is getting weary of digging down every five minutes to pay for legislative extravagance ; it is demanding economy and it is going to get it or know why. |
