Show PENNEY MAKES GOOD GAIN IN GROSS SALES Gross sales of the J. C. Penney company for the month of December Decem-ber of this year were 825,103.925.33, as compared with prross snls for the same month in 1927 of $21,799,-521.30, $21,799,-521.30, revealing a gain of 15.16. The total for the year is $176,697,-622.02. $176,697,-622.02. or a pain of 16.28, as compared com-pared with total soles of $151,957,-865.20 $151,957,-865.20 in 1927. In commenting o year's increase. Mr. C. W. Busard, manager, mana-ger, said : "We feel that the increased sales over last vear tn the amount of $24,739,756.82, or 16.28. is a splendid splen-did showing for our 1023 stores in operation at the close of 1928. "While the sales for the year were less than the quota, we believe be-lieve this fact may be attributed to the unseasonable weather. The increases made by the stores in operation for a year or more rc-, rc-, fleet a satisfactory condition throughout the country. Due to the broad scope of our store units which are located in every state but Delaware, the pi,cturr --resented is a good cross-section of the cco-mic cco-mic situation. "In line with our program to open 500 new stores in the next twelve months, ns recently announced, an-nounced, the compaiv expects to do well in excess of $200,000,000 in sales in 1929." |
