SOCIETY OF THE WEEK . . - - - J Single people invited to join Sociables An entertaining' Valentine social is announced for to-night at 8 p.m., at the Park University LDS ward hall, 8th N. 1st W., Provo, to which all single people of Springville, 23 years and older, are invited, according to Dell Faddis of Provo, president of the organ-ization. The program, planned by the LDS Sociables, is but one of a variety of activities out-- i lined for the season. The or-ganization sponsors twice each ' month with free lessons given at Winter Gar-dens.. There is also bowling twice monthly and a fireside chat twice a month in addi-tion to square dancing on each third Thursday of the month. According to report, the crowds are getting larger at the weekly programs, at which new friends are made and ev-eryone reportedlp has an en-joyable time. "i ANNOUNCE ENGAGEMENT Miss Carol Ann Allan, whose engagement to Howard Allen Horton of Spanish Fork is announced this week, the wedding to be March 7. Miss Carol Ann Allan engaged to wed Spanish Fork man soon ing and they will reside in Utah County. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard M. Allan of Mapleton are announ-cing the engagement and ap-proaching marriage of their daughter Carol Ann, to How-ard Allen Horten, son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard B. Horton of Spanish Fork. The wedding and reception will be March 1, at the Maple-to- n Church. Bidden to attend the bride will be Helen Robinson, Mar-jori- e Allan, Claudia Jo Harris and Sharon Beardall. The charming bride-ele- ct is a graduate of Springville High School and is now attending beauty college. Mr. Horton is employed in Santiquin. She plans to finish her school- - Topic of interest discussed at club Pari Passu club members heard an interesting talk given by Mrs. Fred Schwendiman of Orem, at their meeting Thurs-day evening of last week, when Mrs. Evelyn Wolsey was host-ess. President Louise Springer presided and asked Mrs. Marie Johnson to read the club col-lect. The pledge was recited by all. Mrs. Anna Osltund was in charge of the program and in-troduced Mrs. Schwendiman, who discussed attitudes as mothers to ourselves and those around us as we approach the middle years. Manti Temple rites February 22 to unite Kay Nielson, L. L Hair Pretty Miss Kay Nielson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dean D. Nielson of this city, has set the date for her wed-ding with L. LaMar Hair of Los Angeles on February 22. The ceremony is planned to take place in the Manti LDS Temple and a reception will honor the couple the same evening in the new. First-Twelf- th Ward Church. The groom-to-b- e is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Leland Hair of Salt Lake City. Miss Nielson, a graduate of Springville High School and LDS Seminary, is in her senior year at Brigham Young University, where she is majoring in English. She studied in Mexico City in 1961. During her college years she has been employed also in secretarial work. Mr. Hair is a graduate of BYU in the field of business and is presently assistant manager with First Security Na-tional Bank in the head office computer center, Los Angeles. He graduated from Granite High School and LDS Seminary before attending the "Y" where he was president and nt of Val Hyric Social Unit and president of the Inter-soci- al Unit Council and the Salt Lake Club. He also completed an LDS mission in Hawaii. Donna Hutchings and Lil-lian Crandall returned this week from California, where they have been visiting their daughter and son and their families. Mrs. Hutchings was in Reseda to welcome a little new granddaughter, born to Jack and Delores Hutchings Zirbes, Jan. 30. Mrs. Crandall visited a son Robert and wife and family at Covina. Robert Gabbitas, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Gabbitas, will be spending a month home on leave before leaving on his new service Mrs. Arthur Hatch is home from an enjoyable week's visit with relatives in Nevada, and in southern Utah. In company with relatives from Provo, she visited briefly in Overton, Nev., and while there called on Mrs. Lena Maycock, formerly of Springville, who is presently staying with a sister, Mrs. Mil-lia-n C. Lewis. She sends best wishes to her friends here. Mrs. Hatch also visited her son Ferrell and wife and family at St. George and with rela-tives 'and friends in Hurricane and Tropic ; Federated Music Club hears fine program A program on American Con-temporary Composers of 1870 and 1871, was presented at the meeting of the Springville Fed-erated Music Club Friday eve-ning, when the group met with Mrs. Orvil Clark. Mrs. Arthur Finley conducted the meeting and the program was in charge of Mrs. Warren Tonks and Hannah Rowland. Miss Rowland gave the dis-cussion and correlating music was arranged by Mrs. Tonks including violin numbers by Mrs. Lewis Bird, string trio selections by Mrs. Bird, Mrs. Wilford Manwaring and M;rs. Maurice Bird; vocal solo, Mrs. Orvil Clark and Mrs. Ellen Anderson and a piano solo by Mrs. Berdean E. Oldroyd. Mrs. Tonks also led in group sing-ing with Mrs. Maurice Bird, accompanist. President Grace Crandall conducted and Zelma Beardall led in the salute and gave a short appropriate talk. In connection with the pro-gram, Mrs. Alice Sudweeks gave two piano selections and Mrs. Philda Finley reported on current events. The Art Festival being spon-sored by the Federated clubs was announced for March 6, at 7:30 p.m., in the Third-Nint- h ward church: The ostess served a nicely arranged lunch at the close of the program to twenty club members. She was assisted by her daughters, Mrs. Elaine Rothwell and Mrs. Shirley Beardall. Next meeting was announced for Feb. 22, to be at the home of Mrs. Mae Huntington. L. C. B. club members were guests of Mrs. Ann Jacobson Thursday evening, at her home, where table games and lunch were diversions. Mrs. Beth Sumsion was prize winner.
