Show Legion Auxiliary names student essay winners The American Legion Auxiliary Auxil-iary sponsored essay contest on the subject. "America, Leader Lea-der of Freedom," attracted the interest of a record number of students in the junior and senior sen-ior high school this year, according ac-cording to Mrs. Emma Long, chairman. First place winner in the junior high, is Val Christensen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Christensen, a ninth grade student, stu-dent, and second place, Nancy Zobell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard E. Zobell from the eighth grade. Honorable mention was given the work of Roslyn Strong, Darrell Bartholomew and Molly Mol-ly Stansfield. Approximately forty essays were judged and some excellent excel-lent work was submitted, making mak-ing the selection of the winners win-ners a difficult task, it was stated. The senior high school essays are being written and will be ready for entrance in the district dist-rict contest, Mrs. Long stated. The two junior high winners read their essays in the February Feb-ruary meeting on Americanism held conjointly with the high school Founders Day program at the high school last evening and each student was presented present-ed with a cash award from the Legion Auxiliary. Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Con-over, Con-over, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Reed Johnson, returned this week from a three-week's vacation trip to Mexico. They spent some time in Mexico City, Acapulco and other places pla-ces of interest in the southland. south-land. Mrs. GUda Leslie has returned re-turned home from an enjoyable weeks vacation in Las Vegas, Nev., where she spent the time with a son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Leslie and family and visited a number num-ber of interesting places in the area.
