The Ted and Marjorie Davis family returned to their home in Idaho Falls, Ida., Monday, after a five-da- y visit with rel-atives and friends in Spring-vill- e. They were showing off their new baby daughter, Jana Lee, along with their other daughters, Cindy, Nancy and Deon and son Bradley. Ted spent some time on business in Salt Lake City and on Satur-day the family joined the Vern Davis family of Provo on a skiing trip. Club discusses Mothers Day party Plans for the annual Moth-er's Day party were discussed by members of the Mes Amies club group, when they were entertained Thudsday of last week at the home of Mrs. Kaye Huff in Spanish Fork. The group also decided to postpone the March 28 meet-ing until April 2, to be at the home of Mrs. Carolyn Rich in Provo. Refreshments were served by the hostess at the close of the party. Cultural Arts Club elects officers New officers of the Cultural Arts Club for the coming year were elected at the annual birthday party Wed. evening of last week at the home of Mrs. Rhea Twelves. Mrs. Hel-en Bird was assisting hostess. Mrs. Margaret Pherson is the new president with Mrs. Margaret Holdaway as vice president; Mrs. Twelves, secret-ary- treasurer; Mrs. Lois J. Child, program chairman and Mrs. Lavern Larsen, reporter. The evening began with a nicely arranged tray luncheon served by the hostesses and the time after election was pent visiting. Next meeting of the club is to be in the form of a visit to the April Art show next Wednesday evening, April 3. Novelty Circle party success Attractive in every detail was the Novelty Circle Carpet night party at the home of Jean Crandall. A novel decorative theme was worked out by the pledges who served a swiss steak din-ner. Black and white carna-tions were used to center the table and about the entertain-ing rooms. Attending the party were 42 girls including the members and pledges who acted as the hostesses. Mothers Study Club names new officers Mrs. Mary Clegg was elec-ted president of the Mother's Study Club at a meeting Fri-day afternoon, at the home of Mrs. Philda Finley. President Grace Crandall conducted and asked Mrs. Margaret Hunting-ton to read the club .collect. Mrs. Jennie Sanford reported on the Legislative Council meeting. Mrs. Mae Huntington gave current events. Other new officers named to assist Mrs. Clegg, are Mrs. Al-ice Sudweeks, vice president; and Mrs. Mary Mason, secretary-t-reasurer. Guest speaker of the after-noon, was Howard Ivory, who discussed conservation and its importance to the economy of the country. He also showed some interesting films on wild life to demonstrate effects of conservation. Blaine Packard entertained with accordian selections and birthday pillows were pre-sented by Mrs. Lela Sumsion to Mrs. Maud Thorn and Mrs. Finley. Next meeting of the club was announced for April 12, when Mrs. Anna Johnson will be hostess at Bart's. Twenty club members and Mrs. Gertrude Sumsion at-tended the Friday meeting and a nicely arranged lunch was served at the close by the hostess assisted by her grand-daughter, Carol Finley. NEWLYWEDS HONORED Reception in West Utah Stake House honored new Mr. and Mrs. Ben R. Holley. Before 'her marriage, she was Miss Earline Carter of Provo. Newlyweds, Mr. Mrs., Ben Holley, wed March 15; home in Layton Others in the receiving line were parents of the couple, the mothers choosing light blue gowns with corsages of Now at nome in Layton are newlyweds, Mr. and Mrs. Ben R. Holley, who spent their honeymoon in Las Vegas, Nev-ada following a March 15th wedding and reception. Mrs. Holley is the former Earline Carter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Carter of Provo. The wedding ceremony took place at the home of the groom's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Holley, 77 North 4th East St., with Bishop Grant Nielson of the Tenth Ward, officiating. Later the couple pink rosebuds and white car-nations. Greeting guests at the door were Blake and Kath-leen Holley and at the guest registry were Jolene Barney and Gail Barney. Arranging gifts were Mar-garet Van Leuvan, Kathern Johnson and Bernice Watts. A beautiful wedding cake with white and blue rose received their many friends and relatives at a reception at West Utah Stake House in Provo. The bride was attractively gowned in white brocade satin designed with and long pointed sleeves. An veil, la,ce-edge- d, fell from a tiara of rhinestones. She carried a bouquet of pink rosebuds and white carnations centered with an orchid. Attending the bride were Geraldine Barney, maid of honor in pink, while DeAnn Gines, Shiela Carter and Judy Barney, bridesmaids, wore light blue. Their flowers were white carnations. Acting as best man for his brother was Frank Holley. bud trim and topped with a tiny bride and groom, added to the decorative theme. Jack Jensen (Colleen Allen) visited in Springville Tuesday, coming especially to see her father, Howard Allan, at Utah Valley Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Rex Roylance and two children of Vernal, visited in Springville over the weekend with Mr. aand Mrs. George Roylance and other relatives and friends. Benson addresses Republican Ladies Reed Benson, Utah coord-inator for the John Birch So-ciety, addressed the Spring-ville Republican Ladies Club at the home of Catherine D. Wills, Thursday afternoon of last week. He told how the or-ganization began and ex-plained that it was one of the most effective organizations fighting communism. He noted that the society began with 13 men and now extends over the nation. At the conclusion of his talk Mr. Benson answered a num-ber of questions concerning organizaation, its aims and purposes. Betty Sumsion entertained with two piano selections. In attendance were twenty four club members and guests. Mrs. Shirley Thorn was named president; Mrs. Lynn Brown, Mrs. Elaine Pierce, secretary; and Mrs. Broderick, treasurer. It was project night and club members made emergen-cy first aid kits including bandages to put in their cars. In charge of plans for the meeting were Mrs. Broderick, Mr. Elaine Pierce and Mrs. Marvin Jacobsen. The meeting concluded with refreshments served by the hostess who employed an at-tractive Easter theme in table decorations and favors. lfew Jlrrivaid Boy, to Arlen and Judy Woodward Waters, March 26, at Utah Valley Hospital. The new arrival is the first grand-child of Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Woodword of this city. Also a grandchild of Mr. and Mrs. Carrel Waters of Provo and is the 56th great grandchild of George A. Weight of this city. Mr. and Mrs. Dean Stewart have gone to Evanstan, Wyo., where Mr. Stewart, former Springville florist, is supervis-ing the planting of the green-house at the Wyoming State Hospital. The greenhouse was purchased from Mr. Stewart last summer so he feels right at home in the business. The Stewarts were ready to leave on a business trip to Arizona when they were asked to come to assist with the hospital greenhouse at Evanston. They expect to be there for a few weeks. 1 |
