Show March 28, 1963 THE SPRINGVILLE (UTAH) HERALD Page Five came to recognize the fact that he was an alcoholic and what it did to him. "It is a sad story with a note of hope. Millions will see just what an AA meeting is like. I. think they will find it instructive and enlightening." Alcoholics Anonymous aids filming of 'Days of Vine and Roses' show ces and paper cups. In the front is a low platform with a microphone. About 50 peo-ple are in the audience, a cross-sectio- n from all walks of life. That all of this, even to the faces in the audience, so real-istically reproduces a typical AA meeting can be attributed to the thoroughness of the film's creators. And the coop-eration of AA, which sent a technical advisor; "I've attended meetings that looked exactly like this, even to the people," commented the adviser, who remained annon-ymou- s in accordance with the organization's wishes. "The only difference is that Jack Lemmon is sitting in the front row. "But when he gets up to talk, his speech is the same in essence as hundreds I've heard before. He tells how he became an alchoholic, how he Movie patrons who might never have expected to attend a meeting of Alchoholics Anonymous will witness a rea-alaist- ic simulation of one in "Days of Wine and Roses", the power-packe- d Warner Bros, drama starring Jack Lemmon and Lee Remick now at the Paramount Theatre, Provo. The drama has received five academy awards; best ac-- : tress, song and action. When producer Martin Man-uli- s and director Blake Ed-wa- rs created their AA se-quence for the film, they set out to make it as much as possible like the hundreds of meetings which are conducted daily across the country. On the walls of the small meeting hall are the typical AA signs "First Things First", "Easy Does It" and "Live and Let Live" and of course, the familiar AA creed: "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I ,can and the wisdom to know the difference." At the back of the room is a table with coffee, fruit iowiing. Buy good garden tools, so they won't have to be re-placed periodically. Steel tools are lightweight, d, and give long, depen-dable service. A good basic tool set includes: a spade or shovel, spading fork, rake, hoe, cultivator, shears, trovel, sprayer or duster for plant leaves, water can, cords and stakes for vines, and a heavy and light pair of gloves. Old Trees Old trees like aged .people, have difficulties with respira-tion. Lack of water or food may cause the premature death of any tree. Weeds and insects control should start before their in-vasion. sprays and dusts will control most flower and vegetable diseases and in-sects if applied early and ac-cording to directions.
