Show BYU Cougars set for grid season With more than 70 candidates candi-dates still holding forth on the football field, BYU's coaching staff will open "pare season" this week in an effort to trim the crew to a more workable size. A quick paring of the varsity var-sity candidates remains one of the top orders of business for Hal Mitchell and his staff as they move deeper into the first week of practice. It's expected that the increased in-creased tempo of practice will take its toll. By the end of the week it is possible the varsity var-sity will be down' to about 60 players. The Cougar schedule is as follows: Sept. 21, BYU at Manhatten, Kansas; Sept. 28, BYU at Tucson, Arizona; Oct. 5, Montana at Provo; Oct. 12, BYU at Utah; Oct. 19, BYU at Laramie; Nov. 2, Utah State at Provo; Nov. 9, BYU at George Washington; Nov. 16, BYU at Stockton, Calif.; Nov. 23, Colorado State at Provo; Nov. 30, BYU at Albuquerque. |
