Mapleton man files for assessor post Charles Mastin Wentz of Mapleton has filed for the office of County Assessor on the Republican ticket. He was born in Goshen, a son of Char-les Homer and Janet Jenkins Wentz, and has spent most of his life in Utah County. He has attended school in Provo, Orem, and BYU. He helped with the organiza-tion of the Scera Recreation Center and Scera Theatre. He was manager of the Orem Fruit Growers Assn. He has worked for Safeway stores. He served on the West Union Canal Board until he moved to Mapleton. While in Maple-ton he served a term as mayor. He is a charter mem-ber and past president of the Mapieton Lions club. Mr. Wentz filled a misisonj for the LDS church; has serv-ed as Supt. of Sunday School; a bishops counselor; Sharon LDS Stake Clerk and High Councilman. V w iW WVWMlJ of Trcop 63 tc!:e p:r!i trip Nine Eagle Scouts of Troop 68 (Sixth Ward) visited the Utah-Arizo- parks on their second annual Eagle trip, last week. The trip, which included Bryce, Canyon, Zion National Park, Grand Canyon, Glen Can-yon Dam and Cedar Breaks was taken by members who had attained the Eagle rank. The group included five of-ficial Eagles, Scoutmaster Ro-bert - Strong, Darrel Bartholo-mew, Dennis Patten, Michael Davis and Alan Craig. The four boys who have not yet received, official recogni-tion include Craig Hansen, Ricky Orr, Larry Christensen, and Clyde Gajnmel. Altogether the Scouts tra-veled 1,080 miles in four days and all enjoyed the trip im-mensely. This was the second such Eagle, trip. Last year they went to Yellowstone Park. This completes a series of summer camping activities by Troop 68. Previous activities have included the Fitness cam-pore- e, the troop trip to Lost Lake in the Uintas, Camp Maple Dell, and the annual Star trip (High Uintas trip for scouts of Star rank or above) to Pinto Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Springer and family spent the weekend at Logan visiting their daugh-ter and son-in-la- Mr. and Mrs. Keith (Laurel) Cottam, the occasion being Laurel's birthday. The main items of work are: Schedule 1. Special Improve-ment District Number 10: 10,333 linear feet of standard concrete combined curb and gutter; 5,617 linear feet of four foot plain concrete sidewalk 4 inches thick, with thickness increased to 6 inches at drive-ways; approximately 90 private driveways; drainage and ap-purtenant work. Schedule 2. At various loca-tions in Springville City, re-place the following: 520 square yards of 4 inch thick concrete sidewalks; 140 square yards of 6 inch thick concrete1 side-walks; 84 linear feet of 36 inch concrete combination curb and gutter; 20 linear feet of bridge driveway. Each proposal shall be ac-companied by a certified check or a bid bond in an amount equal to 5 of the proposal. A pertormance bond in an amount of not less than 50 of the contract price will be re-quired; also, a payment bond in the amount of not less than 50 of the contract price will be required. A combined bond in the amount of 100 of the price will be acceptable. Plans and specifications may now be obtained at the office of the Spring-vill- City Record-er. LEfifll HP (HTTP CE NOTICE OF INTENTION CURB AND GUTTER AND SIDEWALK DISTRICT NUMBER 10 NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN by the City Council of Springville, Utah, of its intention to create Improvement District Number 10 for the pur-pose of constructing at certain locations on those streets hereinafter designated sidewalk and curb and gutter and defraying the cost and expenses thereof by levying and collecting special taxes on the lots and parcels of land affected and benefited by such im-provements BOUNDARIES OF DISTRICT. The propos-ed improvement district lies within the corporate limits of the City of Springville. The property affect-ed and which is to be assessed consists of all those lots and parcels of land abutting on the sides to be improved of those certain streets hereinafter desig-nated, for the distances and between the points indi-cated, and running back from the street line the en-tire depth of each such lot and parcel of land or 165 feet, whichever distance is the lesser. IMPROVEMENTS PROPOSED. The im-provements proposed to be made consist of plain ; four foot sidewalks in the areas hereinafter designat-- i ed and both standard and irrigation type concrete combined curb and gutter in the areas hereinafter i designated, together with such private driveways and irrigation headgates as are required; and such im--: ! provements shall include all other necessary things f required to complete the whole project in proper and workman like manner in accordance with plans, profiles and specifications on file in the office of the :!; City Engineer and City Recorder. Street north 410 feet. ESTIMATED COST OF IMPROVEMENTS. The estimated total cost of such improvements as determined by the City Engineer is $54,430.00. The estimated cost to the individual abutter for plain four foot concrete sidewalk is $1.75 per front foot, and for concrete combined curb and gutter is $2.80 per front foot. The abutters estimated cost per front foot does not include the cost of private driveways, the cost of which will vary according to the width and amount of parking area to be covered, and irri-gation headgates. The estimated cost of the average private driveway is $75. 00 and of irrigation head-gate- s is $10.00. The cost of driveways and irrigation headgates will be assessed against the properties benefited in addition to the assessment for sidewalk and curb and gutter. LEVY OF SPECIAL TAXES. To defray the abutters' portion of the cost and expense of such im-provements, special taxes shall be levied upon the lots and parcels of land to be affected or benefited by such improvements, the same to be assessed accord-ing to the front footage upon and against all lots and parcels of land affected or benefited by the improve-ments and abutting on the sides to be improved of the streets above described, for the distances and be-tween the points indicated, and running back from the street line the entire depth of each such lot and parcel of land or 165 feet, whichever distance is the streets for the distances and between the points indi-cated, to-w- it: 400 NORTH STREET south side between 200 West Street and 300 West Street; and between ; 200 East Street and 300 East Street. 200 NORTH STREET south side between Main Street and 200 West Street, and from a point 10 feet east of the east line of Main Street east 180 feet. PROTESTS AND OBJECTIONS. All protests and objections to such improvements or to the car-rying out of such intention must be in writing, sign-ed by the owners of the property to be affected or benefited, describing such property together with the number of front feet, and must be filed with the City Recorder on or before September 7, 1962, at 5:00 p.m. The City Council will meet on September 10, 1,962, at 7:30 p.m. in the council chambers at the! Springville City Hall, 50 South Main Street, Spring-ville, Utah; to consider the proposed levy and hear and consider such protests and objections to such im-provements as shall have been made.
