Show ENFORCING THE LAW. The sale of all liquor containing one-half one-half of ono per cent or more alcohol is prohibited by tho enforcement law recently re-cently passed by congress. Prohibition has been lightly regarded in many ' of tho larger cities of tba country and some of the saloon men have been hoping hop-ing against hope that they would be allowed to sell liquors containing two or three per cent of alcohol, as they have been doing since wartime prohibition prohi-bition became effective. All such hopes have been dashed to the ground by cougress and the New York saloon keepers are giving up the fight. Their decision in this respect is wise, for United States District Judge Hand has granted a temporary injunction at the request of the district attorney prohibiting pro-hibiting the sal3 of liquor containing more than the amount of alcohol allowed al-lowed by the enforcement act. "Moon-shining'' "Moon-shining'' and "bootlegging" may continue con-tinue for a time but it is plain to be seen that drinks with "kicks" in them arc not going to be sold openly over the bars anywhero in the United States unless congress sees fit to repeal the law, which is not at all probable, in view of the sentiment for prohibition prevailing among the people. |
