David Llovd George, prime minister, is at wor!: today in the interest of humanity, because he did not take passage with Lord Kitchener, drowned in 1916 when the warship Hampshire Hamp-shire was sunk by a mine off the coast of Scotland. Lloyd George owes his life to the Irish rebellion, which broke out Easter day 1916. He was preparing to accompany Kitchener to Russia, u cabin having been reserved, or. the night word was received of the Irish revolt. Lloyd George was asked to forego his trip in order to help deal with the situation. Talking to a friend of the matter, he remarked, with feeling: "There is a divinity whu-h shapes our ends. Ah it has surely shaped mine." |
