Show GIGANTIC BOMBING AIRPLANE LAUNCHED By Universal Service. ELIZABETH, N. J., July 6. A gigantic American-built bombing airplane was launched today at the Standard Aircraft corporation's plant as Mrs. Harry B. Mingle broke a bottle of wine upon its frame and christened it the "Langley." It is, with some modifications, of the British Handley-Page model of 1915. and equipped with two Liberty motors. If Its experimental flights prove successful, a large number of similar craft will be made in quantity production, it was said. The plane will carry 11,900 pounds, including in-cluding a crew of three; 2-190 pounds of fuel, bombs, guns and ammunition. The "Langley" was tested in a successful success-ful trial flight late today in the presence of many officials. Five passengers were carried, among whom was Major-General W. L. Kenly. chief of the military aero- j nautics department. |
