| Show first conference on the coast NEW FIELDS ARE OPENED several new assignments are falade many write letters on the of sept the saints of the sacramento and san francisco branches met in the hall used by the latter named branch and held their first conference since the opening of thia mission there were present ten laboring elders as many of the dainta from the two branches as could make it convenient to attend and many frienda and investigators besides the above we were favored with another visit on the oc cassion from bishop M F brown and elder wm driver and bis wife of ogden after the the opening exercises a conference was organized comprising the northern part of this state elder jos R shepherd was appointed and sustained as president of the conference and henry peterson as secretary deports were given showing that twenty six have been baptized into the church in this state within the last few months and a number are now awaiting the ordinance two families have lately removed to utah during the meetings the laboring elders all spoke testimonies were born to the goodness of god in opening the way for them removing prejudice and obstacles and leading them to the honest in heart elders driver and brown each spoke they testified to the truthfulness of the gospel and exhorted the dainta to keep the commandments of god the spirit of god was poured out in abundance on both speakers and hearers believers and un believers experienced and spoke of the good feeling that prevailed new appointments were made as follows elders B W henderson and henry peterson were assigned to the sacramento branch and elder J K shepherd to the san francisco branch A new field is soon to be opened in san Bern ajdino in which elder N A tanner is to labor assisted by a companion from the southern part of the state prospects of other good fields appear which will be opened as soon aa other elders are called into this mission in the near future pres II 11 S tanner contemplates making a trip south for the purpose of organizing branches of the church and a conference in that part of this mission with the exception of one case of ill good health prevails and a feeling of union and love among the faints and there are bright prospects for good from our labors in time to come on the evening proceeding our conference an informal concert and handshaking waa given in our hall to enable the saints from different parts to become acquainted A large audience showed great appreciation of the pro gramme which consisted of instrumental and vocal music recitations etc we invite friends at home who have relatives or acquaintances in this state to correspond with us much good has been accomplished in this way in the past ever preying for the welfare of zion and the work of the ministry abroad I 1 am yours in the gospel of christ patterson M st sacramento cal oct ard 3rd 1895 |
