Show PLAN CAMPAIGN TO BEAUTIFY THE CITY Befctilyon Home Builders Discuss Move to Improve Residential Property in All Sections. Appeals to the civic pride of citizens are being made constantly by membeTS of the Salt Lake Eeal E6tate association associa-tion in an effort to have property improved im-proved and beautified, according to V. A. Bettilvon, president of the association. associa-tion. The effort is now being directed toward having property that has been allowed to run down repaired and made attractive. The advantages of such a general movement on the part of the citizens would be an immensely more attractive attrac-tive appearance for the individual pieces of property and for the city as a whole. And it would prove financially finan-cially advantageous, contend the realtors. real-tors. In order to illustrate the point, Mr. Bettilyon related the following incident: in-cident: A piece of property on East South Temple had been allowed to run down so that it looked sadly delapidated. Located on an excellent site it often attracted inquiries, but when visitors took a close scrutiny of the outside and inside of the house they invar-iablv invar-iablv refused to rent it. Tho property was vacant for two years. Finally" the owner was persuaded persuad-ed to spend $200 in improvements and immediately rented the property for $20 a. month, making a net profit in two vears of $520. "There are many homes in Salt Lake of a similar character," said Mr. Bettilyon. "Now they are simply dead weights on the hands of their owners, but if a little money were expended on them they would undoubtedly become be-come paying investments." |
