Show BREAD RIOTS IN GERMANY PUT DOWN BY THE MILITARY LONDON, Jan. 26. The Amsterdam correspondent of the Express says that extraordinary reports are current concerning con-cerning a revolution in Germany- and that there have been rumors of grave disorders in Berlin during the past two ' days, the rioters clamoring for peace. He also reports l r.:ad riots which were . ruthlessly n-pressed be the police, many j men, women and children beint; wounded. The correspondent admits that eon-I eon-I firmation of tiiese rumors is impossible. but thinks that it is remarkable that no I te.egrams, either press or commercial , i were received in Holland on Friday direct . j from Berlin, all toniini; by roundabout , ( routes. None of Thursday morning's I iJerdn newspapers have arrived. Allied and neutral news sources have ' several times called au-iition to the fact that reports of military revolts. up- i heavals and internal disturbances in the central empires, sent from Petrograd, ! should be received with the caution that they possibly may be put out by the I Bolshevik Kovernment as part of a regular regu-lar propaganda for consumption in Russia only. The Bolshevik leaders have from the bf-Kinnii'.fj informed their followers that the proletariat in the central empires, particularly in Germany and Austria, would respond to the call of the Russian masses and follow their example in overthrowing over-throwing the established governments and setting up a regime akin to that prevailing pre-vailing in Fetrograd. A number of stories of revolts among the troops on the east front launched in 1'troerad have received no corroboration, notably one on the revolt of 2r,000 German troops who were alleged to have been mowed down by machine puns upon refusing to remove re-move to the west front and continue the war there. Petrorad has no direct communication communica-tion with Vienna as the telegraphs in Austria are under government administration adminis-tration and control. |
