Show CEDAR CITY WANTS RAILROAD EXTENDED Activities of Iron County Coal Company Lead to Great Stimulation of Interest In-terest in Southern Utah. Special to The Tribune. CEDAR CITY. Jan. 2ii The arrival of Fred W. Webb, president and general gen-eral manager of the Iron County Coal company, with a gang of men to do work preliminary to the construction of a tramway from the mine to Cedar City, has stimulated to a marked degree the interest iu the development of the natural nat-ural resources of southern Utah. During Dur-ing the week Mr. Webb was the guest of the Cedar City Chamber of Commerce at a dinner given in his houor. and resolutions reso-lutions indorsing the activities of his companv were adopted. Mr. Webb expects ex-pects to leave tomorrow niyht for Salt Lake. Mr. Webb is confident that- as soon as the coal measures on the Colob plateau pla-teau are opened by his company that a railroad will be built to Cedar City. He has announced that negotiations are .under way looking to the closing of contracts for coal with companies situated along the southern California coast, and that once the tonnage is assured as-sured and the contracts are closed, a railroad is practically assured. In his opiuiou, the 'opening up of the coal fields will be the initial step toward the development of other natural resources re-sources of southern Utah, including tho vast iron deposits between here an.l Lund. |
