Richmond, president of the Salt La.ke Commercial club, yesterday appointed ap-pointed George Carpenter, Louis Marcus, Frank It. Newman, G. T. Smith and Harry Anderson to act with him In the promotion of the war films to be produced pro-duced and exhibited under the auspices of the government for the education of the people that they may become accurately ac-curately acquainted with what is being done by the United States in the prosecution prose-cution of the war. Dr. TV. C. Ebaugh will act a.a secretary. Wliile the plans have not yet fully Matured, Ma-tured, it Is designed to produce films showing what is being done in Uie military mili-tary training camps in preparing men for active work in the trenches, and similar activities at the naval stations and by Red Cross organizations. One of the main films contemplated by the government will be in the form of a drama, showing the home and environment environ-ment of a poor German boy in his home in Germany, followed by his emigration to America, where he prospers and after years brings his sweetheart to the land of promise and marries her. The story of his prosperity In the United States is then unfolded. Finally comes the war and his two sons, loyal (o the new country, enlist. en-list. The struggle of the father, in deciding de-ciding betw-een loyalty to his home country and that which he lias adopted, is shown, his love lor tho United States and his final pledge of faith to the stars and stripes developing. Then come actual war scenes, the boys in the trenches incidentally in-cidentally bringing into view actual methods of warfare, photographed by four trained and skilled camera men sent to the front by the war' department for the special purpose. It is planned 1o show the films in all of the larger cities, the films to be changed every si.v weeks. A certain percentage per-centage of the revenue from admissions will be turned 'over to the state council of defense and the balance to certain patriotic pa-triotic sot'tetles. such as the Red Crocs and the soldiers welfare fund. The films will consist of from fivo to six reels and will constitute an evening's performance. |
