Show ILL HUSH FUEL TO NEWENGLAND FROM THE SOUTH Coal Piers at Hampton Roads to Give Complete Right of Way to Fifty Vessels for Boston. SITUATION SAID TO BE DESPERATE Railroads to Give Priority to 12 Trains of 25 Cars Each to Meet Emergency Emer-gency Demands. W'ASTIIN'GTOX, Jan. 30. In response to an urgent appeal from J. J. Storrow, New Kn gland fuel ail minis t rat or, the shipping hoard tonight directed that coal piers at Hampton Roads porta give complete com-plete right of way for loading during a T i! -hour period beginning tomorrow morning morn-ing to a fleet of fifty steamers, schooners schoon-ers and baigcs waiting there to take coal for Boston. At. the same time Direetor-General McAdoo Instructed the railroads to give priority tomorrow to twelve coal trains of twenty-five cars each to supplement the usual movement of coal to New England, En-gland, and to meet omergency demands at Boston, Secretary Daniels ordered the commandant of the navy yard there to turn over 5000 tons of bituminous to the city fuel administrator. Great Distress. The seriousness of the New England shortage was presented by Mr. Ptorrow today In conference with Fuel Administrator Adminis-trator Garfield, Director-General McAdoo, Mc-Adoo, Secretary Baker and Daniels and officials of the shipping board. He said t lie re was distress throughout his section; sec-tion; important war industries were running run-ning on reduced schod ulcs and unless speedy relief was provided a general industrial in-dustrial shutdown may be required.
