Cleveland has entered the government service with the military intelligence department. depart-ment. Mr. Cleveland will havo charge of tho southern division with regard to the protection of industrial plants. His headquarters will bo at Fort Worth, Texas. bieeanso Sheriff John S. Corless is out of the city, it. will be several days before Mr. Cleveland goes to Washington Washing-ton for instructions, lie is chief jailer at tho county jail and will wait the return of Sheriff Corless from Butte, Mont., to render nn, account of his stewardship. The position accepted by Mr. Cleveland Cleve-land was offered unsolicited. Previously Pre-viously he was asked to accept a position po-sition in the same service, but before ho could obtain detailed information as to what would be required of him, the place was filled. The present offer camo with fuller explanation and ho telegraphed acceptance. Mr. Cleveland saw military service with the Fifth cavalry nnd later with tho Twentv-nintli infantry. lie was drum major of the infantry band when the regiment was in the Philippines and won from Inspector General Chambers of the United Slates army, who was then inspector of the Philippine division, di-vision, tho admission that the band was the best drilled be had ever seen. Subsequent to his military service, Mr. Cleveland was for several years a detective on the Salt.
