Show PLANNING TO CURB WILDCAT OPERATORS City Attorney Investigating Feasibility of Enacting Ordinance for Control. At the suggestion of City Commissioner Commis-sioner Herman H. Green, City Attorney William H. Folland is investigating the practicability of an effort on the part of the city to control the operations of wildcat' oil corporations by legislation. legisla-tion. , Whether an ordinance can be made effective Mr. Folland is not prepared now to say. Possibility of discouraging the operations of other than legitimate companies through imposition of heavy license tax is one of the things being considered bv the city attorney. The fact that Salt Lake has no charter is a handicap, sav Mr. Folland in undertaking under-taking to control a situation of tho sort that now confronts the, city officials offi-cials in the unrestrained activities of stock salesmen whose purpose is quick profit and a "getaway." Several salesmen have landed in the county jail on one charge or another, but they ordinarily or-dinarily keep clear of the laws that are already on the books, and tho need of protection for investors who ru-o not prepared to discern between the genuine gen-uine .and the spurious concerns is recognized rec-ognized by the city attorney as well as bv the commissioner who asked his advice on tho matter. If an ordinance that will be curative can lie drawn, it will be submitted to the citv commission for consideration, Mr. I'olland said last night. |
