Show INDEMNITIES ARE ASKEyY PERU ; Strong Protest to Chile Against the Anti-Peruvian Anti-Peruvian Riots. SANTIAGO, Chile, Xov. 28. No communication com-munication has been received from Peru since tho protest of the Peruvian foreign minister agafnst anti-Peruvian riots at Iqulquc, Chile, and attacks on Peruvian Peru-vian consuls, it was said at the foreign office today. It was added that the announcement an-nouncement of Carlos Castro Ruiz, Chilean Chi-lean consul general in New York, that the difficulty between Peru and Chile had been settled by an apology on the part of the Peruvian government, was evidently due to a misunderstanding. Ramon Uuco, minister of industries, resigned re-signed today as a result of the controversy contro-versy following the address In the chamber cham-ber of deputies Monday night by Senor Cardenas, second vice president of the chamber, who suggested that the Peruvian Pe-ruvian situation be settled peaceably. A dispatch from Santiago Tuesday night said that Senor Cardenas had suggested sug-gested an amicable settlement of the questions between Chile and Peru, and that the members of the cabinet present withdrew as a protest. It was added that the president and the vice president of the chamber anonunced that they would resign and that tho session of the parliamentary par-liamentary body had to be adjourned In order to prevent violence. Later the session was reopened, and the deputies voted Senor Cardenas out of office and annulled the resignations of the president and first vice president. Crowds In the streets hooted Cardenas, the dispatch said, calling him a traitor. LIMA, Peru, Nov. 28. The Chilea-n consul here will leave for home late today to-day or tomorrow. The cabinet and senate have approved the i action of the foreign minister in strongly protesting to Chile against the anti-Peruvian riots at Iquique. It is announced that Peru will demand Indemnities In-demnities for these incidents. The entente en-tente ministers at Lima called separately separate-ly upon the foreign minister yesterday. It was reported In dippatchfs from Santiago San-tiago and Lima Monday night that Chile and Peru had recalled their respective consuls. j |
