Five deaths and ninety-six new cases, one doctor not reporting', re-porting', is the toll of Spanish influenza In, Ogden during the twenty-four hours J?' Jniding' at ii o'clock this afternoon, accord - ' ing to the reports from the office of George Shorten, sanitary inspector for the city. The situation in Ogden Vhows no improvement. prominent doctors and health officials announced today. The toll of deaths is increasing each day. There is a shortage of doctors and nurses in the city. A local doctor said this afternoon that he believed that the seventeen doctors of the city each have not averaged six hours' steep a day in more than a month. lie x added that he was positive in the state-a state-a merit that when the doctors -start out on . their calls in the morning they seldom reach home before midnight or I wo or three hours later. Me said further that If nurses could be obtained for the cases there would be fewer fatalities. The deaths today are as follows: Iris Kenyon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred L. Kenyon, 115 Twenty-sixth street, died at the family home at 6 o'clock this morning of influenza-pneumonia, after nine days' illness. She is survived by her parents -and one sister, Mrs. Clyde Thompson of Salt Lake. Funeral announcement an-nouncement will be made later. Vivian Gwin Barker, 20 years of age. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Blair Gwin, 2874 Adams avenue, died nt 2 o'clock this morning of influenza. She is survived by her husband, who is in the army at Camp Sheridan, and her parents. The funeral notice, will he announced after Mr. Barker is communicated with. The body was removed to the L-indnuist chapel. Ray Campbell. 27 years of age. died late last night at the family home, HiT.S Ogden avenue, of pneumonia following influenza. He is survived by bis wife and daughter, F years of age, both of whom are ill. H is parents, four brothers and tliree sisters reside at West vide, Texas. The funeral notice will be given later. Kunosuke Yuasa, Japanese, 27 years of age, died at the mergency hospital at 2 o'clock this morning of influenza, following fol-lowing an Illness of a few days. Funeral services were held in the City cemetery at 5 o'clock this afternoon. The cortege formed at the Kirkendull chapel. Pearl Oreen, colored, "2 yea rs of ncfl, died at the family residence on Lincoln -avenue earlv Ibis afternoon, - oF pneumonia pneu-monia following influenza. The body was removed in the Kirkendall chape, where it will be held pending funeral arrangements. |
