Show PRESIDENT SMITH PRESIDES FOR MORE THAN 17 YEARS Less than two weeks ago, November- 10, was commemorated the seventeenth anniversary anni-versary of the day when Joseph F. Smith was sustained as president of the Mormon Mor-mon church. On November 3", 1901, a special conference of the church was called and sessions were held morning and afternoon in the tabernacle. In the afternoon session a vote of the quorum of the priesthood and members of the church was taken, and the general authorities were sustained, while a special spe-cial vote was taken to sustain Joseph F. Smith as president, trustee-in-trust, and prophet, seer and revelaior of the 'Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, all voting being unanimous. The voting was in the following order: 1. First presidency; presi-dency; 2, twelve apostles; 3, patriarchs; 4, presidencies of stakes; ,r. high priests; 6, seventies; 7, elders; 8. bishops of wards-Op wards-Op priests, teachers and deacons, and 10, members of the church. 1 President Smith succeeded President 1 Lorenzo Snow, who succeeded President Wllford Woodruff In ISO. He succeeded President John Taylor in 1SS9, and Presi- dent Tnylor succeeded President Prigh;im Young in ISSn, who, in turn, succeeded the Prophet Joseph Smith iu 1817. Smith, and whose birlhday celebrating cele-brating his seventeen years of life would have been celebrated by the family had President Smith's health permitted. President Smith's birthday, November 3, was quietly celebrated. In former years the family was called to get her. but owing to his 'illness no large celebration celebra-tion was held. |
