Show Postmaster Sounds Warning to Patrons; Please Be Careful Congesiion of Mails May Be Avoided if Simple Rules Are Obeyed. OWING to the congestion of t lie nmils ut this time, not only lie-cause lie-cause ot' the holiday soasou, but on account ot: the heav- mails due to the war too much emphasis cannot be placed jm the necessity of properly preparing and mailing Christinas Christ-inas parcels, said Postmaster Noble War-rum War-rum yesterday. Compliance with the following simple conditions are essential: essen-tial: Prepay postage fully on all parcels. Address parcels iuily and plainly. Place name and. address of sender on all matter. Pack parcels carefully and wrap them securely, but do not seal them, as sealed parcels are subject to postage at the letter rate. Mail parcels early; they may be marked "Do not open until Christmas." Insure valuable parcels. Written inscriptions such as "Merry Christmas," "Happy New Tear," "With best wishes," and numbers, names or letters for purpose of description, descrip-tion, aro permissible additions to fourth class (parcel post) mail. Books may bear simple dedicatory inscriptions not of a personal nature. Other written additions subject parcels to letter postage. post-age. Communications prepaid at tirst-class tirst-class rate may be sent with parcels prepaid pre-paid at fourth-class rate, provided they are placed in envelopes securely attached at-tached to outside of parcels. |
