Montana, California, Nevada Ne-vada and Arizona today notified Director Direc-tor Baker of the mint that they would be here Friday for a second conference on the government's plan of contracting for most of the country's silver output for a year. A definite announcement of the government's policy concerning price and quant it y required for its own and allied monetary needs is expected about a week later. An analysis of figures on production costs cited by western operators shows that to get maximum output from nmny small mines it may bo necessary to fix a price, of about $1 an ounce, which is 12 cents higher than the present market. This price is said to have been approved tentatively by treasury officials. |
