Show Submarine Act Gives Thrills at Orpheum Q T.VXDING out above every other act on the Orpheum bill presented to a capacity house last night, "Submarine F-7." a conception by Kenri de Vrles. is easily entitled to recognition as the head-liner. head-liner. Saying this, however, does not detract in any manner from the merit of the balance of the generally excellent programme. pro-gramme. For realism, "Submarine F-7" surpasses sur-passes anything that has been presented on the vaudeville stage in Salt Lake for many months, and in these stirrinsr times it appeals to the patriotic sentiment. Correct Cor-rect in detail, the interior of the submarine subma-rine is shown, together with the working of much of the machinery and the revelations reve-lations of the periscope. The cast is competent com-petent to carry the action and the acting Is generally clever. The conception is one of genius. The greatest amount of comedy, Cleveland Clevel-and up to date, that can be crowded into tlfteen minutes is dealt out in "Playmates," "Play-mates," presented by Arthur Havel and company. In this act Reginald, the child for whom his mother secures a playmate from an orphans' home, is a scream and a surprise to Tommy Tucker, who first thought him easv and a "simp," but who iinds him the real thing and one of the hardest propositions he ever went up against. Milo is a disappointment. He is a disappointment dis-appointment of the pleasing variety, however, how-ever, In that, while disguised in voice in the winas. leadintr the audience to believe that a young lady is to appear, delicate and refined and handsomely gowned, when Milo waddles on to the stage he is one of the most intensified types of the genus "bum." Milo is clever as an entertainer en-tertainer and imitator of birds and animals. ani-mals. He was forced to respond to encore en-core after encore. Character studies in dance are presented present-ed by Nina Payne most acceptably, bringing- something entirely new for public approval. ap-proval. With beautiful electrical effect she presents the "Dancer's Dream," which is particularly classic. She makes the hit of the evening in the Futurist Freak, and in the Cleopatra Cakewalk she is a revelation of grace and motion. Some very excellent musical selections are offered by the Hughes musical trio, consisting of two brothers and their sister, sis-ter, and the programme of harmony is well rounded out by Deiro, characterized as the original master of the piano ac-' ac-' cordion. Deiro is generously appreciated and adds materially to the merit of the bill. Private Louis Hart, on furlough from the British army, and said to have been decorated by the French government, shows remarkable attainment in muscle development and performs some remarkable remark-able feats of strength. His poses are new and well above the average of this class of work. In its entirely the Orpheum bill is equal lo the best that have been presented during dur-ing the year and will be repeated every night for the balance of the week, closing with the evening performance Sunday. ' 'Basket of Flowers, ' Dancing Act, Will Top-notch New Liberty-Bill Liberty-Bill Opening Today. AN act that always finds favor with vaudeville audiences is one in which clever and graceful dancing is portrayed. For the coming seven days, beginning to-, day. the Liberty offers Caeetta and Rydell. Miss Rydell presents a solo, called "A Basket of Flowers." which is declared to be a symphony of grace. A ballet duo, modern gavotte and horse trot are features, fea-tures, and the spinning of Casetta is the marvel of all who have seen him. , Everybody likes clever patter, catchy songs and dances, so everybody will like Curtis and Rubell. They have been called vaudeville's "Pinch Hitters." and th'eir act justifies the name, says "Miss Van. They give a varied bit of vaudeville and the "gowns they wear are stunning. Mabel Taliaferro's Skill as Horsewoman Horse-woman Shown in Picture at Strand Theater Today. SECOND only to her histrionic ability is Mabel Taliaferro's skill as a horsewoman. horse-woman. When this popular star appears at. the Strand today and tomorrow in the Metro wonderplay. "Peggy, the Will o the Wisp," presented by B. A. Rolfe. Miss Taliaferro will demonstrate that the knowledge she gained while touring the west on a horse's back has stood her in good stead Mabel Taliaferro has always been a. lover of animals. "The Storm 'Woman" at Mehesy's Combines Humor and Tragedy in Well Contructed Plot. f"LAIRE JI'DOWELL portrays a young Italian girl in "The Storm Woman," a story of a tragic life as told by a reporter re-porter to a cub while they are at lunch. The plot is unique and provides a happy combination of humor and traeedy, "The Storm Woma n" will be shown at the Mehesy today only. Salt Lake's child actress.
