Parley White and Mrs. White went to the Pantages theater last night they rode in a sumptuous sumptu-ous five-passenger touring car. When they returned home two hours later they rode in a street car, and the while they were being Jostled and buffeted by fellow passengers in the crowded public service ser-vice conveyance some unscrupulous individual in-dividual with a fine sense of humor and a refined taste for motor vehicles was touring the country and presumably violating vio-lating all the sections of the traffic ordinance ordi-nance in the chief's car. J ust when Chief White's automobile was taken is known only approximately. He left it in front of the theater at 9 o'clock. At 11 o'clock it was gone. Nobody No-body noticed the theft. When it was discovered the word was hurriedly passed among the patrolmen on their beats and special searching parties were sent out to hunt for the missing vehicle, but at a late hour no trace had been found of it. The police department has experienced a veritable cycle of bad luck with its motor equipment for several weeks past. Within the last three weeks two motorcycles motor-cycles have been run over and destroyed de-stroyed by automobiles, and a couple of weeks ago an automobile ran into the patrol wagon and put it out of commission. com-mission. The theft of Chief White's limousine is regarded as the culmination of the department's misfortunes and a brighter era for its motor vehicles is anticipated. |
