Show DIGS WELL IN Bffl; DIES 1EXPL0SI0I Youth Is Victim of Fatal Accident While Boring for Water. Merwin Stookey, 17 years of age, sou of M. M. Stookey of Clover, a little town in the south end of Tooele valley, val-ley, was instantly killed yesterday afternoon, aft-ernoon, when a gasoline engine which he was using in the digging of a well exploded with terrjtic force. In addition to the killing of young Stookey the explosion set lire to a barn and granary and a large amount of hay, grain and flour was destroyed. From word received by The Tribune from Clover last night, it appears that young Stookey was digging a well inside in-side of the barn, which is described as a two-story affair. The barn was situated situ-ated several hundred yards distant from the Stookey homo and tho first intimation intima-tion that the boy'B parents had of the shocking tragedy was when they heard the explosion. Although Mr. and Mrs. Stookey rushed to the scene at once, and realized real-ized that their boy had met death, they were powerless to do anything and were compelled to wait tintil the fire had practically burned itself out before they could make a search for the body. The body was found at the bottom of the well. |
