New and violent battles are lieins fought on both sides of the river Homme this morning, says the official statement piven out by Die German army headquarters head-quarters staff. Early this morninp, the statement says. British troops attacked in the sector of Maine tz wood and Lonsjueval and made repeated efforts to capture Trones woods. The first British attacks were beaten back and new battles are now in progress. prog-ress. Kast of the river Meuse. in the region of Verdun, the French attempted to reconquer re-conquer territory captured by the Germans, Ger-mans, the official statement says. Near the fortress of So'uville the French attack at-tack was impeded by a curtain of fire, it is declared, and in the vicinity of Laufee work the attack was completely repulsed.- Russian forces which had again entered en-tered tho first line of the German trenches defended by troops of General Count von Bothmer were ejected, the German official offi-cial statement says, with considerable losses by a counter-attack.
