A. AVeidlei and Heinle Scholler completed the first third of their transcontinental trip, which started at San Diego and will wind up in Xew York City. The feature otl this trip is the fact that the gear shift of the Pathfinder car was sealed in high before the Pathfinder Path-finder left San Diego and the seal is not to be broken before the arrival of the car in New York City. All mountain passes, all sandy stretches, all muddy roads; in fact, every ev-ery possible condition, must be met by the Pathfinder car in high gear, and Mr. Weidlei, tho man seen at the wheel in the above photograph, stated last night that the Pathfinder had had absolutely abso-lutely no difficulty in negotiating the trip thus far in "high." In speaking of tho possibility of making mak-ing such a trip, Mr. Weidlei said: "Of course, the -Pathfinder has a wonderful won-derful engine. It is a twelve-cylinder type and generates 102 horsepower brake test. But even with the piece of mechanism mech-anism of such remarkable power, other conditions must be favorable. The Pathfinder Path-finder engine is very sensitive and requires re-quires a very high grade of lubricating oil. Any ordinary oil would give us much trouble, ami it is doubtful if we could make the trip with anything but the very finest. veedol oils are the only oils that are allowed to go into the Pathfinder motor, the reason being that careful tests bv our factory experts have proven that Veedol oil 'furnishes the greatest and most perfect lubrication with the very least carbonization, and that it is absolutely uniform in quality." qual-ity." The Pathfinder -car stopped in Salt Lake City long enough to take on a supply sup-ply of Veedol oil at the Salt Lake Hard- i ware company, which company is the local lo-cal distributor of these oils. Weidlei and Scholler left San Diego July 3 and expect to lie in New York City July 28. No attempt is being made to make any speed records, the idea being be-ing merely to make the entire trip without with-out going' out of high gear. |
