Show DARIO RESTA FIRST 1 ISO-MILE EM Ralph De Palma Wins Fifty-mile Fifty-mile Race; Machinist Is Killed. OMAHA. Neb.. July 15. Pario Resta, driving at the rate of miles an hour, today won the 150-mile automobile race on the local speedway. His time was 1 hour, .11 minutes. 27.91 seconds. Tom Milton was second and Ralph Mulfoid third. In the fifty-mile free-for-all race Pe-Palma Pe-Palma won handily, leading the field from the start. His time was 30 minutes, 31.21 seconds. Eddie Klckenbachr finished sec-I sec-I ond and Pete Henderson third. He Palma made the first thirty miles of this race ! in IT minutes, 22. 1H seconds, said to be I the fastest time ever made on any track. A fatal accident marred the event. In I tho sixth lap of the big race Alvo : Pranchi's car jumped from the raised track at a dangerous curve, turned over in the air and struck the ground fifteen feet below. Franchi was not hurt, but Pan Columbo, his mechanician, sustained a broken hip and other injuries, from which he died a few hours later. In the seventieth lap Jaok Gable's cat blew a tiro and turned over, but its occupants oc-cupants were uninjured. L. R. Hines, mechanician of one of the 1 cars, was overcome by heat during the main race and taken to a hospital, but his condition is not thought serious. |
