Show ENLISTMENTS ASSURE CITIZENS' I MILITARY TRAINING CAMP More Than Necessary 500 Men Secured at 9 o'Clock Saturday Night; Four States Are Represented by Volunteers. SUCCESS for the citizens' military training camp was assured at 9 o'clock last night when 501 men had been guaranteed. The 500 mark was set some time ago by the war department as the number that should be acquired by July 15. For the past ten days the reorganized committee has strained every effort to meet the requirement. re-quirement. Enlistments have been on the steady increase during the past week. Sixty-seven Sixty-seven were made sure of yesterdav, fifty-five the day before. At 9 o'clock last night the enlistments totalled 491. F. R. Rockwell, assistant general manager man-ager of the Denver &: Rio Grande railroad, rail-road, came into the office and promised ten men. whose names will be turned in Monday. With many towns that have planned public meetings still to be heard from, it is expected th.it by Monday at least half a hundred more will have turned in their application blanks. Busy at Close. As the closing hour approached last night the enlistments began to come by i telegram and by telephone, and the ot-i ot-i fice was continually crowded with .ap-! .ap-! plicants who wished to enlist even at ; the last minute in order to help Salt ; Lake make good on its promise of a suc-! suc-! cessful camp. It is now certain that the camp will be held at Fort Douglas from August 22 to September 16, and while the desired de-sired number of 500 has been secured it is probable that enlistments will be received for some time, and it is thou eh t that 200 or 300 more will have enrolled by the time the camp opens. ; "Captain John B. Murphy, in charge of the training camps for the western division, di-vision, will be notified by wire tonight that the success of the camp is assured, and it is thought probable that indication indica-tion will shortly be made of the officers of-ficers who will have charge of the Fort i Douglas camp. ' ! King Recommended. ' Lieutenant Eugene Santsfhi, mustering muster-ing officer of the United States army, who has been recommended by the lo- cal committee as officer in charge of the cam), has recommended to Captain I Murphy that Captain Wesley King. N". G. L., be retained as quartermaster of the camp. I A considerable number of cities and I towns in Utah. Colorado, "Wyoming. , Montana and Idaho have not as yet been heard from, and everv mail for the next few days, at least, is expected to bring in the names of additional recruits re-cruits for the camp. The Ogden committee com-mittee has just gotten under way, and though only two have enlisted so far , from the Junction city, a score or more are expected to join the camp. Utah's f Dixie" and the country about Provo are also expected to send in recruits shortly. Director S. Maginnis, who has had charge of the final campaign, lact night expressed his satisfaction with the results re-sults of the past few days, and said that he confidently thought the enlistments enlist-ments will total more than 6 0 before another week has elapsed. The training train-ing camp office will be open today for a phort while in order to note the mail returns and communicate with Captain Murphy at San Francisco. From Four States.
