Show BRITISH HEROINE HONORED J & y& GIVEN PLATE BY ADMIRALTY A-frs. Felton. Mrs. Felton Helped to Win Falkland Islands Battle for the English. LONDON, Sept. 16. -Mrs. FeUou of Fitzroy, Kant Falkland Islands, has been presented with a plate by the British admiralty for the aid which she rendered to the British squadron squad-ron on the day of the naval battle oft the FaUtland Islands. The earlier reports of the battle which reached here merely mentioned the fact that the German squadron under Vice Admiral von Spee was sighted while the Britisn ships lay in harbor with steam up ready for a dash, but said nothing about the person who sighted the enemy ships. It was presumed that they had been sighted in the usual fashion by naval scouts. As a matter of -fact, tndy were first seen by Mrs. Felton, who happened to be on a high ridge which gave a view of the sea for many miles. Instantly she realized what should be done and rushed to the authorities with information which resulted in the entrapping and destruction of the German vessels. The British vessels remained in the harbor until thc German warships had approached so near that they could not escape a stand-up fight. , Vice Admiral von Spec attempted to make a running fight of It, but his biggest vessels, the Snharnhorst and Gnelsenau, were quickly brought within range of the British guns and pounded to pieces. |
