Rumors during the past, few days of activities in the interest of so-called 'Mark horse" Candida Can-dida tea in Min municipal campaign developed de-veloped into something tangible today, when a number of prominent citizens are said to have held an informal meeting meet-ing for the purpose of considering available avail-able candidates who have not already announced their candidacy. 8o far as could he learned this evening, only two candidates were mentioned, W. 4. While the prospective candidates would appear under the citizens ' banner, ban-ner, their candidacy would he entirely nonpartisan so far an national party affiliations af-filiations are concerned, according to those sponsoring the plan. So far as intimated at this time, the plan to put a citizens' ticket in the municipal field does not include candidates candi-dates for city auditor and municipa I judge. According to those behind the movement, an expression will be obtained ob-tained from Mr. Parker and Mr. Parm-ley, Parm-ley, possibly others, too, after which it' will be definitely determined whether to cajll a public mass meeting for the purpose of nominating hitherto unannounced unan-nounced candidates for mayor and commissioner. com-missioner. At the present time there are, in addition ad-dition to the full Socialist ticket, only two candidates in the field for mayor-commissioner, mayor-commissioner, three for four-year commissioner, com-missioner, ore for municipal judge and one for city auditor. Those who have announced 1 hemselves are as follows : For mayor-commissioner, A. G. Fell, incumbent, in-cumbent, and A. R. Heywood; for four-vear four-vear commissioner, T. S. Browning incumbent; in-cumbent; M. L. Jones and William Doyle; for municipal judge, George S. Barker; for city auditor, A. F. Larson, incumbent. There seems to be a general understanding that Hevwood, Larson and possibly Jones will Vie indorsed at the Republican city convention to he held Tuesday evening. ff they abide by the call of the central cen-tral committee. Republican voters of tbe city will attend ward primaries Monday evening for the purpose of selecting delegates to a city convention on Tuesday Tues-day evening. As outlined by George J. Kelly, chairman of the central body, the seventeen voting districts of the city will he entitled to a total of 208 delegates. While delegates may be instructed in-structed at the primaries, tbe actual nomination of candidates will not occur until Tuesday evening. |
