While large sums in the aggregate have been turned over to the states from the receipts from national forests, there are many western, members of congress who believe the entire receipts and not 35 per cent should be returned to the states. The annual cost of maintaining the forest service is about $5,000,000, or about double the amount of the gross receipts. |
