Show CAUGHT AT LAST. A former mayor of Ansonia, Connecticut, Connec-ticut, a man prominent in political, financial, fi-nancial, Social and religious circles, has confessed to the embezzlement of $36,-000 $36,-000 from the savings bank of Ansonia, of which he was treasurer. The pilfer-inks pilfer-inks extended over a series of years, but exposure came at last, and the once highly-respected Franklin Burton now appears before the world stripped of all his honors. We do not know under what circumstances Burton first dipped his hands into the bank's funds. Perhaps Per-haps he only intended to borrow a small sum which he thought could easily be repaid before its absence from the vaults could possibly be missed. Success Suc-cess may have emboldened him until he got in over his head and repayment became be-came impossible. His fall should be a warning to all others who might be tempted to take the first step, from which, in many cases, there is no turning turn-ing back. |
