OGDEN, Feb. 4.- Facing oilier charges of grand larceny and one of breaking jail if he escapes conviction, Joseph T. Barker was placed on trial before a Jury m JudSo J. A- Howell's court today for tho theft of a horse from L. H. Hammond Ham-mond of toy. on MaV 16, 1914. It is charged in complaints already filed that Barker stole two other horses from Ogden Og-den valley farmers. Although the county officers sought vnsucressf ully to introduce in evidence rliat Barker had one: pleaded guiltv to Ihe three grand larceny charges, the defendant de-fendant is righting nroseeiUion in the jiresent ens1. During this afternoon's proceedings Barker testified that he nnugiit the Mammond horse from a man named Roger.-, who hIho turned over to r,im two other horses to sell. After his arrest early last summer for the theft of the horses, Barker dug a hole through the stone wall of the county jail and escaped. He was later captured m Iowa. ' |
