Show RELIGIOUS BATTLE COSTS TWO LIVES Bank Cashier Shot in Tight Is Expected Ex-pected to Die; Feeling Runs High. MARSHALL, Tex., Feb. 4. At a preliminary pre-liminary Inquiry here today into the deaths last night of William Black, a lecturer lec-turer of Bellairc, Ohio, and John Rogers, a local contractor, Clarence F. Hall of St. Paul. Minn., testified he killed KoKers after the latter had attacked Black in Black's room at a hotel. Miss Sadie Black, 17 years old, adopted daughter of the lecturer, testified that Black was shot and killed by "a man they sav Is Mr. Copeland." John Copeland, one of several local men whose visit to Black's room last night was followed by the deaths of Black and Rogers, Is in a critical condition from three pistol-shot wounds. Black claimed to be a former priest of tho Roman Catholic church, and In a lecture lec-ture here Tuesday attacked that church. He was due to lecture again last night. The local men visited him shortly before the hour of his lecture. Hall accompanied accompa-nied Black to this city. |
