Show THE CAPITOL ASSURED. Tlio Tribune joins with tho public in congratulating the Capitol Commission upon tho ns.suranccs of Mr. Dent, a member of that. Commission,' that thero will bo no further delay in the letting "of tho contract, for tho construction of tho capitol building. Thero has boon delay after delay, and all at onco at tho lust, moment, as it soonicd,- thnro sprang up another prospect of .delny by reason of the dispute between the architect of the capitol building and life" city- engineer on tho question of grades on Capitol Hill. But really that uibpuio aijoros no reason why tho Commission should make further dolay In the letting of tho contract for the ca,pitol construction, because. so. far as tho capitol itself is concerned, tho lines and elevations wore accepted by the Commission from the surveys and plans of the Olmsted Brothers, which, wero approved by the Commission long ago. With regard to oporations in fu-fcurity fu-fcurity that might call for differences as to other grados, the Commission need not concern itself at this time. And wo aro glad to note from Mx. Dorn'a assurances that tho Commission will ignore ig-nore that dispute. 'Mr. Dom says that tho Commission will get right down to business now, and will let tho contract this week; that all tho nccossary data are compiled: com-piled: and that the Commission is fully ful-ly informed as to bids and their effect, and. that it is ready to proceed. There have been some understandings in .the past, as ip the Courtesy of taking no aclion until tho wliolo membership" of I ho Commission is present, but this complete attendance is at tln)03 found f.n ho ininvnef inWA nr, tr-'.li l.- ...... . ..wv.wtu.l., I1JIU II in jivi. ua. required, eo far as that requirement would involve dolay. Tt is, of coiirso, importaufc to ha-vo all tho members of the Commission present and to Lavo the action unanimous, but it is more important yet .to act; and from Mr. Dern's assurance it is evident that while all would de-riro tho full attendance attend-ance of the Commission, tho absenco of a member will not in itsolf cause further dolaj-. All this assurance is good to have, and the assurance that the capitol contracts con-tracts aro. going to bo Jet speedily will be gratefully received, for the time is getting short, and the necessity for action is imperative. That tho Commission Commis-sion will take decisive aclion thiH week, is therefore, at once quieting to the public mind and proper as a business proposition. |
