The permanent, organization of a public lands congress by representatives of fourteen four-teen western states and the territory of Alaska, lo secure federal legislation that will give to the states In which public lands are located the control of lhe disposition dis-position of those lands and other natural resources, which It is held should be used for the development of the states and state Institutions, has been deferred until after the convention of western governors gover-nors to be held ot Boise, Ida., August 1. In the meantime, the executive committee com-mittee of the public lands convention haa recommended that congress postpone further legislation on the subject until the western neoplo have stated their position posi-tion through their governors. The executive committee has also suggested sug-gested to the. chairman of the governors' convention that ho Join In a call for a public lands convention to be held at Boise at the same time the governors' convention meets. Should the governors not desire to Join In tho call, a specinl committee has been authorized to call a. convention to form a permanent organization. Ask Postponement of Action. At a meeting of the executive committee com-mittee of the puhllc lands convention, comprising Hie states of Arizona, Arkansas. Ar-kansas. California. Colorado. Idaho, Montana. Mon-tana. Nebraska, Nevada, Now Mexico. Oregon. South Dakota, rtah, Washington and Wyoming, and the territory of Ala.Mka, held at the Commercial club yesterday, the following resolution was unanimously adopted: Whereas. The governors of tho western stales will convene at Poise, Ida., on August 1, 1?1L', at which tiui" and place auestionn pertaining to public lands and tho conservation of the natural resources will be discussed dis-cussed and the position of the western west-ern states will he definod and mud known to the congress of the United States: therefore be It Uesolvcd. That it is the sense of this committee that further action upon the Lever bill or legislation of a like character be deferred until the people of the public land states may ho heard and their positions on lhe great questions made known through their governors jit the convention to bo held at Boise, Ida., August 1, 10K Resolution by King. Supplementing the foregoing resolution, the following, Introduced by Judge W. IT. King, also was adopted: Whereas, Tim governors of tho western sta.tes will meet. In convention conven-tion ac Bolso, Idaho, on August 1, 1P12; Resolved, That the chairman of this convention appoint a comniltlco of three from the executive comuilt-N toe. who shall be authorized and directed di-rected Immediately to confer with the chairman of the governors' convention con-vention and place before said convention con-vention the principles for which this organization stands and respectfully request that tho governors join with tho executive committee of this organization or-ganization in promulgating a call for a public land convention to he held at Boise at the same time that tho govevrnors meet. W Musser, Utah; Arthur Hooker, Washington; Patrick Sullivan and T. S. Taliaferro, Wyoming. Judge W. U. King of this city was present as the representative of Governor Shafroth of Colorado. W. D. Candland was chosen chairman and J. W. Musser secretary of the meeting. |
