Show DOWNING GETS LICENSE FOR BOUTS AT LAGOON The city council of Farming-ton last ulKht granted to Hardy K. Downing a. Hcerife to conduct a. boxing content at the Uigoon between May 10 and 15. Downing Down-ing will now endeavor to match Matty-Baldwin Matty-Baldwin and Fighting Diclc .Hyland for his opening card. Tile Farmington council met Inst night and considered the license matter. President Presi-dent Miller of the Farmington Commercial Commer-cial club argued In favor of the granting of the license, as did Mayor II. S Dayncs. It. was decided to appoint a boxing commission com-mission oomposed of five men. President Miller will be chairman of the commission. commis-sion. Mayor Daynes, City Attorney Daniel Dan-iel Alexander and at least one physician will bo member. Associated with Downing in conducting t ho bouts at the Lugoon will be Harrv W. Hcagren and Charles IT. Tortcr. Downing and Porter will also assist Ileagren In conducting the shows which he plans for Saltalr during the coming season. Downing I? now arranging . a ton-round boxing contest which will be a preliminary to the Miller-Yokel wrestling wres-tling match at Saltalr on May 27. It I Downlng'n Intention to conduct a number of first-class boxing and wrestling wres-tling shows at. the Lagoon. The first show will bo staged In the largo dancing pavilion at tho. Lagoon. After that the contests probably will be put on in an arena which wljl be. constructed on the slt of the present baseball grounds. Downing and Simon Bamberger, owner of the Lagoon, have decided that In the event, of the contest proving a success no expense will be spared in constructing an amphitheater which will furnish the most perfect arena, in the United States. Downing will arrange a number of good preliminaries to his first show, and if he Is successful In rematchlng Baldwin and Hyland for tho main event ho will have one of the most attractive cards ever offered In this part of the country. No liquor will be sold at any of the boxing shows and no drinking will be tolerated on the premises. |
