Show M KIIVDS OF COPPER I OHKPRODUCED United States Producers Must Concentrate Big Portion of Tonnage Mined. i UTAH SECOND IN 1910 Low Gold and Silver Values in Copper Ores Reach Substantial Total. i Anions the Innumerable Interesting dloclosuros in copper mining during the year 1010T as shown by tlio United States freologlcal survey, is tbc amount of aco-ondary aco-ondary copper produced, which equaled 17 per cent of the amount consumed, am! the tonnage handled by (he various stales of the union In producing the primary metal. There were- treated during the year 25,497,233 tons of copper ore. of which only 5,001,391 tons were smelted direct, the balance of 23,iP3,SU tons bo- HH inj of a concentrating grade. MR Michigan wn the stato producing the HHh greatest tonnage of ore demanding con- UBIg oantratlon, J0.S69.fi61 tons, while the statu B of Utah wa6 .second with a total of l.SIG,- IH 429 tons. Although Michigan treated HH over double the tonnage, of Utah In her Hn mills, It produced 180,420 tons of concen- IflH tratea to Utah's 181,201 tonK. But the HHH Michigan concenlratos contained 222.653,-45! 222.653,-45! pounds of copper to Utah's 01,970,100 HI pounds, Arizona handled only 1,117. H02 HKi tons of concentrating ore lurlng the year, UBI from which were produced 39,3$S,50I HH pounds of copper. I Arizona in the Lead. Arizona, howovor. stood at the top of the smelting ore tonnage for the year 1910, with 2.226.S93 tons, from which were rescued 237,350.756 pounds of copper- The mines of California, which concentrated only 3031 tons of ore during the year, were second in the amount of smelting ore production with 713.654 tons, from which were produced 48,617,055 pounds. Utah was third In the amount o smoltlng ore produced, with 571.129 tons of ore. from which wore produced 32,331,747 pounds of the metal. The mines of Michigan Mich-igan aro credited with no straight smelting smelt-ing copper ore during the year. From the concentrating grades of ore were produced 659,169,530 pounds of copper, cop-per, while 414,267,316 pounds were from smelting grade of ore. The following table shows the production in tons of concentrating and straight smelting ores for a few years past; Smelting Concentrating 1906 .. 3,278,000 14,722.000 15107 n.937,500 16,295,o00 100S 4,665.531 17.760.522 1909 5.267.707 22,664,911 1910 ..5,001,391 23,193,844 Precious Metal Contents. I Both Arizona and Utah will show In 1012 a very marked inc rease In the fjuan-tlty fjuan-tlty of concentrating oro produced. Arizona Ari-zona during this year will have tho Miami, Ray Consolidated and several other producers with extenslvo milling plants at work. The Utah Copper of Bingham will he depended on to increase the showing of tho state of Utah. It Is interesting to note that during 1910 the producers of copper increased th world's wealth or gold and silver tremendously, tre-mendously, tho production of the two more precious metals being a side issue. The gold thus brought into commercial shape totaled 264. 6S0 ounces: silver, 16.-021.424 16.-021.424 ounces, the combined value of which was $14,121,509. This was an average av-erage of 0.0093 ounces of gold and 0.562 i ounces silver per ton, an average precious metal yield of 49.5 cents per ton. Tho copper ore produced In Utah had gold and silver present to the average value of $0.64 per ton. Michigan ores contained 1 cent per ton In gold and silver, California Califor-nia being first In this value with $1.94 per ton. |
