Show MEXICO ASKS IDAHD TD PIE KILLING Special to The Tribune. BOISE, Ida., May 2. Mexico has made a demand upon Idaho to Investigate the recent killing of a Mexican named He-rera He-rera In Grove City, Bingham county, In the southeastern part of tho state, on April 19, claiming that complaints have been filed with the Mexican government that the killing was unnecessary and that the coroner's investigation was conducted con-ducted behind closed doors and all witnesses wit-nesses were excluded. Through the attorney at-torney general's office In this state a sweeping investigation will be made. Ilerera and a companion named Pedro Pacheco, two Mexicans, were celebrating the marriage of one of their fellow-countrymen fellow-countrymen Just before the killing. The officers objected to their conduct and arrested ar-rested Pacheco. This angered Ilerera, who interfered with the officers, but ho was repulsed and In tho excitement was allowed lo get away. While Officer Smith took Pacheco to iall Herora returned re-turned and chopped up Smith's bicycle. When the officer returned he pursued Ilerera on horseback and ordered him to halt. Ilerera refused and Ktafted on a cross-country run. The officer fired shots on each side of him and again warned him to halt. Still Herera continued to run. Officer McKay Joined Snilth In the chase and Herera was again ordered to halt. He was brought down In his tracks with a bullet and died a few hours afterward. after-ward. Tho fellow-countrymen of Herera complained com-plained to the consul general of Mexico and to the Mexican consuls at Denver and Portland. The coroner's jury Is said to have held its conference In secret and the Mexican friends of Herera declare that the killing was unnecessary. |
