Lawrence, commissioner of finance, wEb has consistently con-sistently opposed all efforts to increase the pay of city employees this year on the ground that the city cannot afford it, took exception to the recommendation recommenda-tion of the recorder. He insisted that the increase should not be granted unless un-less other department employees are accorded a similar increase. After some discussion the matter was finally referred to tho finance commissioner' com-missioner' as head of the department under which the recorder's office operates. Representing local bill posting companies, com-panies, Scott Anderson appeared before the commission to protest against the new ordinance pertaining to the erection erec-tion of bill boards. He declared that the license fee prescribed in tho new ordinance is excessive and unreasonable. unreason-able. The protest wus referred to the city attorney Ifor an opinion. |
