" I I - More Than Five Hundred Attend At-tend Reception at Hotel Utah. MEMBERS of the Grand International Interna-tional Auxiliary to the Brotherhood Brother-hood of Locomotive Engineers held a reception in the Hotel Utah last night, to which were Invited, in addition to the members of their order, the members of tho order to which they are auxiliary and also their families. Tho object of the reception was to give their friends an opportunity to meet the grand president, Mrs. W. A. Murdock, and .the grand trustee, Mrs. .1. J. Norton. Other honored guests were E. L. Brown, vice president of the "Denver & Klo Grande; A B. Apperson, general superintendent su-perintendent of the Denver & Rio Grande lines In. Utah; M. A. Pond, assistant superintendent of the Utah division of the Oregon Short Jiinc; W. IT. Smith, assistant superintendent of tho Salt Lake route: D. G. Cunningham, superintendent of-shops for the Denver & Rio Grande, and the Rev. P. A. Slnrpkln, pastor of the Phillips Congregatlonnl church of this city. Musical Programme. About 500 were present on the mezzanine mezza-nine floor, where the reception was held, and in tho ballroom adjoining. Refreshments Refresh-ments wero served throughout the evening even-ing and music was furnished by Salt Lake artists. Among tho selections were: "Soldiers of Today and Yesterday," Yester-day," a song composed by a member of the auxiliary and dedicated to the engineers, engi-neers, which wus sung by Miss Ivy Evans; Ev-ans; "The Watercourse'" and "Fie Was a Prince," sung by Margaret Burton. Yesterday forenoon was spent In exemplification exem-plification of the ritualistic work of the order. Mrs. W. A. Murdock witnessed the work of the different teams and said after the drills that her criticism was all commendation. Among the cities and towns that had teams in .the work were Los Angeles, Pueblo, Las Vegas, Nov., Pocatello. Glenns Ferry, Ogden and Salt Lake City. Luncheon was enjoyed in the Odd Fellows Fel-lows hall by the 200 women attending the mooting, -which Is the annual union meeting meet-ing 01 the western and southwestern stales. The luncheon was prepared by members o.f the, local division and served by their daughters. The Rev. P. A. Simpkln. pastor of the Phillips Congregational Congrega-tional church, was guest of honor at the luncheon and made a short talk at its close. Convention Ends Todaj Charitable work and plans for the future fu-ture wero discussed yesterday, In addition addi-tion to the ritualistic 'work, at both the forenoon and afternoon sessions. The work will be concluded this forenoon and this afternoon the visitors will be entertained enter-tained at Saltair by the local division. All of the business of the union meeting meet-ing -will be concluded this forenoon, but many of tho visitors will remain for the rest of the week and will bo entertained by the local division. Complete plans for the entertainment -were not announced yesterday, but no effort will be neglected to make the stay hero u happy one. The mode of entertainment will depend upon the number that remains after today. Tomorrow, however, Is definitely arranged ar-ranged for the entire delegation to go to Ogden canyon and spenc the greater part of the day and evening In picnicking In the canyon. |
