Show STRIKING ALTITUDES WORK OF THE SURVEY The United States geological survey is publishing a series of reports containing the results of spirit leveling in all parts of the country and giving tho exact elevations ele-vations or altitudes of a great number of points. One of these reports Bulletin 434, "Results "Re-sults of Spirit Leveling In Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia, Vir-ginia, 1S9G to 1909" Is available for free distribution and can be had on application applica-tion to tlie director of the survey at Washington. The work In Maryland during dur-ing tho entire period covered by the report re-port and in Virginia In part of 1903 waa done In co-operation with those states. The roport gives the exact elevations above mean sea level of about 100 points In Delaware, 40 In the District of Columbia, Colum-bia, pioro than 500 In Maryland, and moro than 400 In Virginia, These elevations have been determined by tho survey In connoctlon with Its topographic surveying. survey-ing. To engineers and surveyors this publication should be of great advantage, as tho elevations, which havo boon accurately accur-ately determined, afford a starting point for a survey of any kind that may be contemplated.
